Students are expected to write different types of essays, according to the 7th grade Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS). The rubrics that are used to assess the students writing are directly aligned with the CCLS, as well. Each type of writing is modeled to the students, as well as, the different parts (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion) that encompass the essay. It is the students' responsibility to use the graphic organizers and notes provided in class to write their essays. Each student should have a binder and/or folders to keep these papers safe. The students are expected to come on their own time if they need additional help with their writing.Their writing/essays should always be handed in with a rough and final draft in blue/black ink, or typed. The essay should be neat, legible, and be edited based on the rubric that aligns with the assigned task. Peer editing and individual conferences are always implemented during class and during 0 period, as well (if applicable). It is imperative that the students are completing the essays, with a sufficient amount of effort. The two essays completed at the end of each unit are worth 20% of their final grade. All of the essays written this year, will be filed in the students' portfolios. If the essays are not completed, a blank will remain in the portfolio. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail or at the school.
